OVH?

OVH are the largest hosting provider in Europe, and the third largest in the world based on physical servers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OVH They have traditionally focussed on hosting "Websites" (think PHP sites like WordPress) rather than web Applications, so they were leapfrogged by AWS who build "Infrastructure as a Service". OVH have traditionally either offered "Hosting" i.e. shared hosting, or dedicated servers. Their pricing for ("bare metal") dedicated servers is incredible! https://www.ovh.com/world/dedicated-servers/prices

If you search online, you will find that OVH has the cheapest "Public Cloud" VPS instance available: https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/public-cloud/prices image Their cheapest instance has 2GB RAM, 10GB NVMe SSD includes an IPV4 address for $3.50/month

"These instances are adapted to suit your tests, recipes and development environments. Their performance may vary slightly over time."

There are accounts on Reddit/HN of people using these instances for personal projects without any issues.

If you want a "real" instance then the prices start at: $26.40 /month but you get 7 GB RAM and 2 CPU cores: https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/public-cloud/prices/#compute image

Where they really out-compete on price is for Block Storage: https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/public-cloud/prices/#storage image

They have NVMe SSD Block storage for $0.073/GB/month which is 30% cheaper than DigitalOcean or Linode.

This HN thread has some insightful comments: "Ask HN: Why are cheaper hosting services like OVH not very popular?" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17999662

Conclusion: their support is non-existent. Only use OVH if you know what you're doing. If you mess up you're on you own!

Ask HN: Should I really avoid OVH for production app? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12582735

Conclusion: cheap but unreliable and horrible support.

This looks really bad: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.ovh.com image
