Update the 'Why' section of the readme - What problem are we solving?
I have grouped together 'what is the problem we are looking to solve?' and 'why are we building Time?' because in my eyes, when you build something you do it to create something that people will benefit from that they cannot already get access to elsewhere. Another way of saying this is, we are trying to solve a problem for people that they don't already have a solution to.
From our existing 'Why?' section in the readme:
Time (a finite amount it) is one of the few things we all have in common. Whether we like it or not, we each only have a fixed amount. It is our most precious non-renewable 'resource'. We need a much better way of keeping track of how we spend it.
I agree with this extract however what this extract is saying is why time is precious not why tracking time is precious.
In #19 (comment) we say:
We believe everything we do should Save. You. Time which you can then spend doing the things you love (you know, the ones you never have time for now).
So from this I am deducing that the problem we are looking to solve is:
The problem of not having enough time to spend doing the things you love.
We believe that time management may be a solution that can help solve this problem. However, there are billions of time management methods and applications as @nelsonic mentioned: #19 (comment). And yet the problem of having more time to do what you love has not been solved for many people. Therefore, there is something that these apps are not doing that needs to be done differently.
I am going to group together our findings from our discovery research on time saving methods to reveal the next step which is how we propose to help people find more time to do the things they love.
Actions:
- [ ] Update the 'why' section (using the existing content and its message) to be somewhat more direct in saying: We believe time is really valuable but we never seem to have enough of it. We cannot make more time but we can provide tools to help you make the best use of yours to have more time to do what you love. We are building Time to be that tool.
@nelsonic @iteles - I'd like my edit of the Why section to embody what you set out for the reason Time should be built. This is my understanding based on reading through the readme/ issues in the repo thus far. I felt like the knowledge was a bit scattered and so I had to search around a bit to get to this point. I'd like to edit the 'why' in the readme so this information is readily available to everyone who is new to the project.
What do you think of my summary? Have I understood the dialogue on the repo as you intended?
help people achieve their biggest life and organisational goals.
Our Time app is first and foremost about helping people to stop wasting their own time.

Revised 'Why?':
Why?
We want to help people achieve their biggest life and organisational goals. We feel that helping people to stop wasting their time on things that don't further those goals is a good way of getting there.
@Cleop this is a good why. It could be worth tying it to @dwyl's mission: https://github.com/dwyl/start-here/blob/master/mission.md#what-is-dwyls-mission
