Invert a shield to represent a death
I was preparing a Roll using Drawshield when I realised that there didn't seem to be any way to invert a whole shield to represent the death of the bearer. Examples of this can be seen in Historia Anglorum represented here on WappenWiki: https://wappenwiki.org/index.php/Historia_Anglorum
Is there a way to do this?
I can extend the syntax "the shield shown rotated..." to also have "the shield inverted". I'll look into this!
I've done this, you can now say things like "ermine a bend or the shield shown inverted" or "the shield shown in death". If there are better heraldic terms for this please let me know
Many thanks Karl. That works great for individual shields. I was hoping to be able to do it in Rolls so for instance:
a roll with 3 columns
title "Testing Shield Types"
heater shape
Checky Azure and Or the shield shown inverted
caption “1 First Prince (deceased)”
then
SCA shape
Barry of 10 Azure and or
caption “2 Lord Number 2”
then
german shape
Vairy Azure and or
caption “3 Knight the third”
The first shield is not inverted.
As a matter of interest, where do I find information about DrawShield syntax? I discovered the other day, by looking at some code, that shields can be 'joined' or 'alongside' but I had no idea they could be 'rotated'.
Good point, at the moment none of the shield adjustments can applied to shields within a roll but there shouldn't be a problem adding it, I'll take a look.
There is some documentation here https://drawshield.net/docs/index.html but at the moment there's nothing on the shield level adjustments, I will add that too!
That's done - in fact there was a bug preventing achievements being shown in rolls, which I have now fixed so you can have complete achievements in rolls as well as simple shields.
Thanks Karl. That's awesome. As a matter of interest I tried other achievements and the motto works fine but other achievements such as helmet or crest also appear on the whole roll. That's not a problem for me but I thought I'd let you know.
Afternoon Karl. I figured out the problem. If you add any achievement to the last shield in a roll, it applies to the whole roll as well, including the invert. To avoid this I have just put a blank shield (same colour as background) in as the last shield. I'm about to post my version of the shields from Historia Anglorum, using these tools.
Thanks, I've fixed that!
