Proposal: Tutorial

So, it would be really cool if we could find a way of bringing the Docker Getting Started tutorial inside Dockercraft. Maybe we can add some cool things that are unique to us too (e.g redstone).

An idea for this would be to have a map that runs at the start which goes like this:

  1. The map asks you (somehow) if you would like to go through the Getting Started tutorial.
  2. If you select no, you get sent out of that section of the map and back over to where your containers will be.
  3. If you say yes, you will be sent to an area containing books and walking you through the getting started guide to be a real-use way to try out Docker.
  4. Once completed, you will be able to continue using Dockercraft.

Thoughts?

The map asks you (somehow) if you would like to go through the Getting Started tutorial.

We could implement a /tutorial command to make that happen and adjust the MOTD to suggest that a user type this if they would like the tutorial.

you get sent out of that section of the map and back over to where your containers will be.

It would be simpler to create a new world for the tutorial. We can then teleport the player at the start or end of tutorial.

If you say yes, you will be sent to an area containing books and walking you through the getting started guide to be a real-use way to try out Docker.

This sounds awesome! When I last looked, Cuberite didn't support books but things may have changed...

If books aren't supported could do it the old fashion way with signs on the walls

Thanks for the response @dave-tucker. I've got just a few comments.

It would be simpler to create a new world for the tutorial. We can then teleport the player at the start or end of tutorial.

Do you mean to have the tutorial in a separate world from the containers? It seems like it could be done, but not easily. It would be easier to have the tutorial set in one place in the world, and then the containers area could be x amount of blocks away, and then from there just use teleporting.

I'm not 100% sure how you guys do everything, so I may be wrong and that may be the easiest way to do it. I would love to know how the system works more.

When I last looked, Cuberite didn't support books but things may have changed...

I looked into this and the only mention of books not being supported was a forum post from February 2016, but I can go in and do tests to see if that is still true.

Sorry books are still not implemented.

@Seadragon91 Any estimate as to when they will be implemented?

Can't say for now, need first to create a overview what It need to add.

Ok well thanks for the repsonse @Seadragon91 I guess we will have to go with @thomasmck 's suggestion of signs.
