Remove start of line tabbing highlighting

On one machine I use I get this where the highlighting shows at the start of the line:

On another machine I use I only get highlighting after code and on empty lines (the latter being how I'd like it).

Any ideas what's going on here please?

I noticed https://github.com/disq/HighlightWhitespaces/issues/11 but not sure if these are the defaults, or if you need to override them. Also it's weird that it does it one way on one machine, but different on another and afaik they both have the latest build.
