Currently not working in kicad 5.1.2

I have had this plugin working in the recent past on MacOS. I recently tried to use it on a new install of macOs 10.13 and also on Ubuntu 18 both running instances of Kicad 5.1.2. The dialogue boxes are presented, the net list is loaded and apparently parsed correctly (it complains, for instance if you choose a non-existent RefDes), however none of the pads are painted when 'Paint' is selected. No errors are emitted.
