Viewing Wallpaper as - feh --zoom fill -g 800x600 Images Cut Off

Open ghost opened this issue 11 years ago • 13 comments

Hi,

I set wallpapers with Feh in Openbox using this command in my menu;

feh --zoom fill -g 800x600 "/home/foo/Wallpaper/"

I changed fill to scale it helped, but then the images didn't fill the feh window and I didn't like this.

When I view some images, some parts of them are cut off, is there a way to have the image fill the window and scale it so you can see everything?

Here's an image being cut off;

Thank you...

Hi,

Just to let you know I tried all the options in man, can't seem to find any that work...

thanks

Run feh -g 800x600 somefiles. --geometry will scale down to fit if no zoom argument is present.

I tried this already, then the images aren't fully shown, the feh window for many images is left with a blank border at the top and bottom;

This is why I was at least using the fill because it looks better when viewing the image.

It would be nice to have the image fill the feh window and scale to fit at the same time.

To achieve that, you must not use a fixed geometry, unless all your images are 4:3 or some other fixed aspect ratio you'll never fill 800x600 ;-)

There is no option to limit the window size to an arbitrary value without forcing it to that value at the same time; however, you can use --scale-down to make sure the window (and its content) is never bigger than your X11 screen.

Hi derf,

Well I want the Feh window to be small to scroll through the images to set a wallpaper, so I'm not sure then how you're suppose to keep the window a fixed size unless you use -g? Otherwise feh displays the images across the screen really big. These are big images for wallpapers, most of them around 1920x1080 resolution...

--scale-down alone won't work, I have images being displayed almost 75% of the desktop size...

I thought a lot of people would use Feh in this way, as a viewer to set a wallpaper background. I hope in the future you can please make it so we can use the window a small fized size with the images scaled to fit in it, so we can see all of it.

thanks derf

Hi derf,

So if this option is not available right now, do you think this is possible for you to create in a future version?

Thanks much appreciated! :)

I too would like to have this option where the wallpaper would scale to fit in the small feh window when looking at images, I use too for setting wallpaper and see the same problem.

Please make support, thank you

It's a valid point, indeed. Adaptive window resizing is lots of "fun", so this feature won't make it into the next release — But I'll keep it in mind.

Yes thank you for consideration on a future release, this would be very nice. :)

Hello derf,

Any changes in this coming about for this year?

thank you

@ghost, I cannot reproduce your issue with feh 2.23.

feh --zoom fill -g 800x600 "/home/foo/Wallpaper/" I changed fill to scale it helped, but then the images didn't fill the feh window and I didn't like this.

So what do you want to achieve in the end? Do you want a fixed window geometry or not?

Bump. It'd be awesome if there was an option like feh --bg-FZ.
