Positions can be totally wrong

I am not sure if this is an issue of this project but I have had several Location reports from India and the US or other, very remote places (I am based in central Europe) with Items I didn't travel with. Any Idea how this happens? Could there be duplicates in private keys? If so I would expect these positions to be more frequent but they just pop up every other week or so.

I have observed completely wrong reports from Apple multiple times already. They come like that directly from Apple. I already filter out some of them (invalid, too high inaccuracy). Unfortunately, I can't explain it. If I filter out even more, it's possible that correct results might be excluded too.

Alright, thank you for the explanation. So if you filter out already, wouldn't it make sense to have a user defined threshold area in the app/webclient, so one could individualize this filter and thereby minimize the risk of false filtering? For example if I look for my car keys and anything outside 10 km wouldn't make sense I could set that area. Whereas if I have a tag in my luggage on an international flight I could adjust it to 1000 km or completely disable that threshold.

I don't filter by location data because that wouldn't work (for example, at a flight). Apple provides information about accuracy, and if it's too high, I filter it out. That helps with most inaccuracies. I've considered filtering based on temporal and spatial distance (i.e., how far apart are two points and is that distance possible to travel in that time). However, I still wouldn't know which one is correct. Can you provide your decrypted reports?
