Hey, we've just implemented a new Wayland protocol extension in Sway which can be used for rofi-like purposes: layer-shell. This protocol is also slated to land in several other wayland compositors: Way Cooler, waymonad, and bspwc, to name a few. There are also upcoming plans to submit it to wayland-protocols and I'll be working with the KDE team on it as well in a couple of weeks.
I just ported a dmenu-like tool to layer-shell: https://github.com/Cloudef/bemenu/pull/31
Please consider using this protocol for your Wayland backend.

Sadly it uses GTK
@nifker i don't understand. why is that sad?
@edrex Because it loses its flair and most GTK applications feel a bit more sluggish.
A small comparison: wofi: 55MB RAM and about 8%CPU usage per Core(6 Cores) rofi: 16MB RAM and 0%CPU usage
