Feature Request: Add Playback Speed Button with Scroll-to-Adjust
⚬ PROBLEM:
Changing playback speed currently requires opening menus or using keyboard shortcuts, which interrupts the flow of watching. There's no direct or intuitive UI element to adjust speed quickly with the mouse.
⚬ SOLUTION:
Introduce an Extra Player Button (similar to ⏯️🔁🔀 ➰➕) dedicated to playback speed control, placed below the player, in the same row as the loop/repeat and rotate buttons. Ideally:
- The button displays the current speed (e.g.,
1.0x) - Scrolling while hovering over the button would increase or decrease the speed
- Clicking could optionally open a small speed slider or list of preset speeds
⚬ ALTERNATIVES:
Users can rely on keyboard shortcuts (Shift + < / >) or browser extensions, but these aren't always intuitive or accessible — especially for users who prefer using the mouse.
⚬ RELEVANCE / SCOPE:
This would benefit a wide range of users, particularly those watching long-form content like tutorials, lectures, or podcasts. It streamlines an already popular action and makes it more discoverable.
⚬ "SIDE EFFECTS":
Adds one more UI element, which may feel unnecessary to some. However, placing it in the optional "extra buttons" section below the player would minimize any impact on the core interface.
⚬ CONTEXT:
This would fit well alongside existing optional buttons like loop/repeat and rotate, which are also placed below the video. A simple ⏩ 1.0x or speed icon would clearly indicate its purpose and integrate naturally into that row.
