Why CNCF?
Contributing Hidra to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) offers significant value and aligns with the project's objectives in several key ways:
Visibility and Credibility
- Being part of the CNCF, known for its robust, high-quality cloud-native projects, enhances Hidra's visibility in the tech community.
- This affiliation can attract more users, contributors, and potentially sponsors, elevating Hidra’s profile and credibility.
Community Growth and Collaboration
- The CNCF's vibrant community offers a platform for Hidra to engage with a wider audience of developers, users, and organizations.
- This network facilitates knowledge sharing, collaboration, and feedback, driving the project’s growth and development.
Alignment with Cloud-Native Principles
- Hidra's design and functionality resonate with the cloud-native approach that the CNCF champions.
- Its focus on monitoring cloud-based services aligns with the CNCF's mission to drive the adoption of cloud-native technologies.
Access to Resources and Expertise
- CNCF provides various resources, including technical, marketing, and organizational support.
- This access to resources and the collective expertise of the CNCF ecosystem can be instrumental in scaling Hidra, enhancing its features, and improving its market reach.
Sustainability and Governance
- Being under the CNCF umbrella can help in establishing a sustainable open-source governance model for Hidra.
- This structured environment ensures a balanced and fair development process, encouraging more contributors to participate.
Interoperability and Standards
- CNCF’s focus on interoperability and establishing standards aligns with Hidra's goals.
- Being part of CNCF could facilitate Hidra's integration with other cloud-native projects, promoting broader adoption and usability.
The decision to choose CNCF stems from its reputation as a leader in fostering cloud-native technologies, its commitment to open-source values, and the synergistic potential between Hidra's objectives and the CNCF's mission. Contributing to CNCF is seen as a strategic step to align Hidra with the best practices in the cloud-native ecosystem and to leverage the foundation's resources and community for mutual growth and advancement.

Additional information
No response
- One committer has majority of the commits ( https://github.com/hidracloud/hidra/graphs/contributors )
- GPL licensed
- Not much activity (pulls, issues, forks, stars)
- Integration with Prometheus and Grafana called out in wiki doc
- Tool for Monitoring online services starting with websites (and has a bunch of plugins for other protocols)
Feels like it is probably a bit too early for sandbox and i don't see a strong cloud native connection yet.
Agree with @dims It seems too early for sandbox application. Exisiting scope is limited and there is no roadmap info. Suggest presenting it to TAG-observability and getting TAG's feedback.
The TOC discussed your application in the TOC meeting. The decision is for you to come back re reply after completing the following: address the GPL license issue, present to TAG-observability to get their feedback, extend the project scope, get more community interest and get more active contributors to this project, add roadmap.
Thanks for the review! I will review the points you have told me about, and hope to have everything under control in the future.
Closing as @cathyhongzhang has provided guidance on next steps 👍
