Multiple language support
Chunky's UI contains lots of words related to computer 3D-rendering. It might be difficult for some English speakers who knew nothing about "samples per pixel" or even "render". I believe it is even more difficult for fresh, non-English speakers. (eq. I'm from China and most of my friends, who already had years of college English education, have tons of trouble trying out chunky).
I am not a programmer and cant help with coding, but I really love this tool and wish it can be more wide-spreaded. So please consider my suggestion. Contact me if you are doing this in the future and need help of "Chinese"(CHS/CHT) support:)
The atmosphere density has already been mentioned in another issue so I've edited it out of this issue. Translations would be great but there is no method currently to translate things in the UI.
We have a couple of options.
We recode Chunky's UI to use Java's i18n utilities, where all strings needing translation are extracted into separate files in key-value pairs and Java provides a hash map for each locale, defaulting to English.
- Translation of Documentation
Since most of the English text in Chunky consists of short phrases, words and ~~acronyms~~ initialisms, it might just be easier to have volunteer-translated versions of the documentation that a reader could imbibe in their native language, and then be able to operate Chunky without i18n.
The former is more work for us, the latter is more work for the user. But for a non-native English speaker to be able to operate Chunky, the latter might still be required. So we can try that first, and if people are still having problems, we can try i18n.
