Open pull requests and composer 2 compatibility

@boldenamsterdam I found this fork of @mikeymeister that includes (probably) the same fixes as in pull requests #25 #27 and #29. Obviously people start using forks because pull requests are not reviewed/merged. The changes in the fork of @mikeymeister also make the plugin compatible with Composer 2. That should close #32.

Could you please review and merge these changes? If this plugin is no longer maintained, please let us know.
