Of the four icons at the bottom, only two have a readily apparent purpose (gear and lock). Of the other two, one is unnecessary and the other is misplaced. I would put the settings gear and lock icons in the upper right. I would remove the graph icon since the user can just close the settings (with a "Back" or "Return" button) to go back to the main screen (where the accounts are listed). And finally, you can have a [+] add account button next to the accounts drop down list.

Alternatively, you can have tabs at the top where "Accounts" is one tab and "Tools/Settings" is another, and you can add additional tabs if/when needed in the future. Under settings you can have sub-items such as below.

Tab 1: Accounts Tab 2: Tools/Settings

  • Linked dApps
  • Wallet back-up
  • Wallet Timeout (hint hint)
  • etc...

That's where I had it originally, but @sschiessl-bcp disagreed :P

Well, I'm sure he can admit to being wrong once in a while. :D

Anyway, another good option is to have "Manage Accounts" under Tools/Settings. Although if you go that route, I think it still makes sense to have a [+] button next to the dropdown list of accounts on the main screen. But yeah, it seems awkward to make it a top-level menu item where it is a bit out of context.

It's also not helpful to have main menu items represented by vague icons without text labels (and I don't mean tool tips, although obviously those can also be helpful). Of course, the lock icon doesn't need a text label, but that probably shouldn't be a main menu item. Gear icon doesn't need a text label, either. Although I would use one if you go the tabbed UI route and want to make Tools/Settings one of the tabs.

I like the action bar on the bottom, and also not opposed to a tabbed view. I'd saw that's personal preference.

  • A shortcut for "Add account" could certainly be useful close to the combobox, could be the first item in the combobox? "Add account"? Or a non-intrusive plus, although I expect that the user wont add accounts in normal day usage
  • Also agree to the dashboard icon being redundant as its the main screen
  • Could add a history tab, that shows all signed and/or broadcast actions (persisted in localstorage)

I do prefer tabs vs. the action bar on the bottom. But my main problem is not the location as much as it's the current items included in the action bar, and the lack of labels. It's currently too easy to feel lost i.e. not knowing what is possible or what to click next.

I think the [+] is far less intrusive than using the first item in combobox.

Well, it's redundant unless you want to go with tabs and make Tools/Settings a second tab. Plus I imagine there will be other items in the future that would want their own tabs.

Yes, case in point!

The footer navigation has been removed in favour of using a hamburger drop-down menu button in the top left of the UI.
