R[v22.0] Font missing

Open Willtech opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

Build v22.0 on Fedora 34 with Berkley DB 4.8 (note Fedora people, despite newer versions being available Berkley DB 4.8 IS the standard as it is bug free and fully compatible.)it looks like the build is missing a font as the sizing is bad and in options, it gives the options of Embedded Roboto Mono or closest matching Source Code Pro that it does not use possibly most places even when selected.

It is not currently possible to read a large portion of the information on the catchup overlay.

Also, the Berkley DB copyright/licence information is missing from About Bitcoin Core modal window.

The Berkley DB copyright/licence information has to be there all the places wherever it was before.

I did not quite manage to get a capture of the catchup overlay but you can still see on the main wallet GUI that it is using separate fonts. The original fonts were already correct even on my hi-res mini notebook screen. Please use proper embedded system fonts for display. image

It may be that not displaying the correctly Berkley DB licence information is an interfaces issue that needs to be logged bitcoin/bitcoin

If it is helpful to see what I am building just cd bitcoin/ and run makebitcoin.sh I also run strip. I also ln -s dnf get https://github.com/Willtech/bitcoin/tree/v0.22.0rc4

You're getting at two things here:

  1. BDB license info is missing? I am not aware if the BDB license was ever in the About Bitcoin window. If what you're referring to the line in the Information Tab that used to show the current BDB version being used; that was removed in #118 as we have a deprecation plan to completely remove BDB in favor of sqlite.

  2. "Font issue" on Fedora In regards to the title of this issue, there are no missing fonts. Fedora 34 out of the box uses wayland as it's composite manager. In general, I would say bitcoin-qt support on wayland is not perfect. The issue shown in your screenshot appears to be qt on wayland related as I cannot replicate the issue when running bitcoin-qt with plugin=xcb. In principal, this should still not be occurring and will look into the bumper here.

@Willtech

Could you define "before" please?
