pynep silently fails to load NEP v4.7 potentials (works with v4.4)

Hi, I’m using pynep via the ASE interface to load potentials generated with NEP (Neuroevolution Potential).

pynep itself hasn’t changed, but after updating NEP from v4.4 to v4.7, potential files generated by v4.7 are no longer loaded correctly. Potentials generated with NEP v4.4 still work as expected.

What happens

  • pynep is called to load a potential generated by NEP v4.7
  • No error, warning, or traceback is shown
  • The program appears to finish immediately and exit normally
  • Pressing Enter in the terminal behaves as if the program has already completed
  • No potential is actually loaded
  • Same pynep version + NEP v4.4 potentials → works fine

Because there is no error output, it’s hard to tell what exactly fails internally.

I’ll also attach both NEP v4.4 (working) and NEP v4.7 (not working) potential files for comparison. Is there any planned update to support the newer NEP v4.7 potential format?
