well ensure that your appllication is refusing that connection and return a 400 ? How gunicorn would know it needs to refuse it?

I'm open to adding Prometheus support, but we should ensure the solution doesn't restrict us from integrating with other systems. This flexibility is exactly why we have the metrics library....
on which version did you test? also no need to use the catch-all "request smuggling". If we strip there it may be a parsing issue.
