Markdown header scaling

I customized solarized-scale-markdown-headlines to t but I don't seem to be getting scaled headlines. If I disable the theme and customize markdown-header-scaling to t, it works fine. I tried a few other combinations of these options but none would work.

markdown-mode
Version: 20231002.721
Commit: c12adcfbeb2d45d376df50c843758c6ef22fdd08

The theme I use is solarized-selenized-dark. I'm on Emacs 29.1.
