1155 remove babel to fix defaultProps deprecation warning

To be able to build the thing on MacOS 14.5, I also needed to update node-sass...

To make the eslint compatible with the code using the default parser, eslint had to be updated to v8. V9 required changes in the eslint config file, So that seemed to be a bit out of scope for this PR.
