Concerning the -r I already replied here: https://github.com/freebsd/pkg/issues/2494 as I am not against, but it does not make sense as the repository is a volatile notion "not a package metadata"....

I understand your point and agree we should implement something like the -X you propose or --glob-exclude (-G ?)

common/update_version_env(): don't set both ABI_FILE and OSVERSION

if ABI_FILE is defined with a valid version I should probably ignore OSVERSION if defined in env and not via command line and bot issue warning in this case

pkg solver is looking at too many packages

I agree we can probably relax it and only check FreeBSD:*:amd64. About blindly adding packages to the universe, if you mean by that, yes a gate keeping which says all...
