Inconsistent signals returned for mp3 and wav encodings

The audio signal returned for the same source encoded as mp3 and wav are quite different. I was expecting some margin of error, but in my case the [min, max] value range for the same source was decoded as [-0.554, 0.5936] and [-0.9917, 1.0000] respectively.
