Search box not replacing placeholder text when using x-webkit-speech

I've added the speech attribute to the search input field, so that I can use it with Google Chrome:

<input type="text" name="s" id="search" placeholder="Search" value="" x-webkit-speech />

Now, when I click on the microphone icon and say my search term it get's appended to the placeholder word "Search". (Same happens when I click into the field and then click on the microphone icon.)

However, when I click into the field and enter a search term via keyboard it works. "Search" get's replaced by the actual search term.

Having the same issue. Did you figure out what was causing this?
