Adding grub entry in 0.97

Open ketanarlulkar opened this issue 9 years ago • 3 comments

How should I add entry to grub 0.97 I have created VM and installed Ubuntu 12.04 I have also compiled kernel file and moved in to /boot directory I edited file /etc/default/grub by adding an entry

title myKernel
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /boot/kernel-701 ro

After this I try to update grub #sudo update-grub But I got error saying title command not found. What am I missing here?

AFAIK, update-grub is for GRUB2, not for 0.97. I don't know where the grub conf file sits on Ubuntu. Probably /boot/grub/grub.conf. Just add the entry to the grub conf file.

Thanks @arjun024 I have upgraded my grub to 1.99 now. And I'm able to see the entry in grub which says, Ubuntu, with Linux 701 But when I select this entry I get error saying

error: invalid magic number
press any key to continue

When I press any key, it returns to previous menu.
