Follow Discoverable Partitions Specification when using systemd-boot
I wasn't able to find any discussion regarding this. Please let me know if I somehow missed it.
The benefits of automatically discovering partitions are listed on the DPS webpage.
Any interest?
I think we talked about this somewhere but I cannot recall where. Do we have an arch wiki on the subject? (I'm on my phone and on vacation. I can find it later if it exists but would appreciate a link if there is one)
Seems to exist in the form of bits and pieces across a few pages:
- (GPT) Provides a unique disk GUID and unique partition GUID (PARTUUID) for each partition – a good filesystem-independent way of referencing partitions and disks. GUIDs are a prerequisite for the Discoverable Partitions Specification that can be utilized in a systemd-enabled initramfs.
GPT fdisk - Create partitions - Partition type
- It is advised to follow the Discoverable Partitions Specification since systemd-gpt-auto-generator(8) will automount them. See #Prevent GPT partition automounting if you want to disable automounting for a partition.
etc.
I'm very interested in this too. But unfortunately it seems like I can't even set the respective UUID by hand in the disk layout configuration. That could be a simple first step. 🙂
Closing as a duplicate of #862 just to clean up. But we'll reference this ticket when implementing :)
