"Preparing for printing..." & Pending

Two messages are happening in cups with my new Canon printer. It sometimes shows one message and other times shows the other, but nothing prints.

There appears to be no timeout. It will set there all day.

Any ideas as to how to make the print job go thru to the waiting printer?
