On slow networks, A+ chapter loads chapter content and embedded assignments in different languages in multilingual courses
In a multilingual course like O1, if the user has a very slow network connection, then the chapter page contents may be loaded partially in the wrong language that the user has not selected. E.g., the chapter text in English, but all embedded assignments in Finnish, or vice versa.
This has been reproduced in normal campus networks by enabling the network bandwidth throttling in Firefox under the Developer tools. Use the 3G bandwidth. The throttling can be set at least under the "responsive design view" in Firefox.

Not yet, you could try if you can reproduce this issue. This looks like a real puzzle since it is such a strange issue, but you can give it a shot! :smile:
I've been playing around a little bit on the o1 course and haven't been able to reproduce it yet, it probably has something to do with different translations being applied to ajax requested html but I'm not too sure
Google Chrome, Two tabs open, change language in one of them.
Open developer-tools -> network -> Throttle to Slow 3G change languages in both tabs and scroll vigorously. One of them will be mixed.
The reason why this happens is that the exercises are included using javascript and it probably gets the language from the api, not from the page where it is being included into.
It is important to check if the problem can be avoided by manually adding the language query parameter to the URL.

It should force the language to English in multilingual courses even if the student has selected Finnish in the course settings or the user profile settings.
Translating the page to fully english from Finnish seems to work with url parameter, although it seems like the loading of one exercise timed out.

The Jutut feedback form in the end of the chapter is always going to fail when running the containers locally. The localhost container can not connect to the Jutut server and the course settings have hardcoded the Jutut server address, thus it tries to connect to the real server even in local testing.
I’ve received two more reports of O1 pages showing up as a mix of Finnish and English.
If I understood correctly, these are Finnish students who are getting English-language assignments in the middle of a page that is otherwise in Finnish.
(Incidentally, this causes problems for us even if the student does know English, too, since we have different language versions of the software modules that students work on. It is very confusing for the students if the chapter text refers to one version of the program and its components, but the assignments feature a completely distinct module. In practice, the student will have to jump through several hoops in order to download the different module and to map what the chapter says to what the assignment demands.)
This is two students only, but it’s two out of just a few dozen who have given feedback so far in O1 (before the course even officially kicks off on Monday). So the problem does not seem to be extremely rare.
Since this is the sort of weird, assertion-failed issue that ”kinda should not ever be possible”, I hope this gets investigated at some point in the not-super-distant future.
I’m personally quite clueless as to what might be the cause.
