Subagent names no longer highlighted in UI - regression from recent updates

Open kevindkim opened this issue 4 months ago • 4 comments

hey team! 👋

hey, noticed that subagent names aren't being displayed properly in the ui anymore. instead of seeing the actual agent names highlighted, i'm just seeing generic task descriptions. it's been like this for a few days now and wondering if it's a known issue.

expected vs actual behavior

expected (how it used to work): ⏺ strategy analyst #1 (research market trends...) ⏺ codebase researcher (analyzing repository structure...)

actual (current behavior): ⏺ task(research market trends...) ⏺ task(analyzing repository structure...)

evidence this is a regression

found some evidence this might be related to recent ui changes - the v1.0.80 changelog mentions "fix text contrast for custom subagent colors and spinner rendering issues" which suggests there were known subagent display problems. also noticed other projects like moonsong-labs are implementing workarounds to "display sub-agent names in tree view" because this functionality seems to be missing.

relevance

the agent name highlighting was really helpful for workflow visibility - knowing which specialist is working on what, tracking different agents in complex tasks, and just generally understanding what's happening when i have multiple agents collaborating. it was also great for learning how different agents approach problems differently.

environment

  • claude code version: 1.0.111
  • platform: macos
  • context: using agents like @strategy-analyst.md, @codebase-researcher.md, etc.

thanks for looking into this! the subagent system is fantastic, just miss being able to see who's actually doing the work. 😊

I have this same issue, the agents are not found in the ui with /agents. If I restart the session my agents usually come back. The files remain in the agents directory, it's just CC doesn't seem to pick them up every time.

commands i had the same issue but i fixed it by repeating the commands in global and project level. still not seeing subagents except for one time yesterday when i happened to initialize claude in my users/[my-username]/ directory instead of users/[my-username]/claude folder.

would love to see a fix here!
