Additional Context
on claude 4 sonnet (auto model select)
/compact with autocompact disabled is REALLY buggy
When a conversation is resumed after the context window was almost completely filled compaction does not work. Initially, it displays Compacting conversation history…, but after like 50 seconds, that message disappears and there's just API errorsAPI Error (Request timed out.) · Retrying in x seconds… for 10 attempts after which it fails. This is in spite of the fact that my status still displays as "online", i.e. I still get sth like · Cogitating… (23s · ↓ 0 tokens · esc to interrupt) displayed with no offline status.
I can also access Anthropic's website just fine, or any other website. Using a VPN that routes DNS requestS does not fix the problem. And the status of of the API records no downtime today.
I'm suspecting that the backend fails to return an error for whatever reason so it appears as a timeout to the client. Combined with the fact that when you resume conversation, you don't have the percentage of context used displayed immediately, it's a real hassle.
