Output of FASTQ or QUAL in addtion to FASTA

Is there currently plans to add functionality to output FASTQ or QUAL files in addition to the FASTA output? I'm curious about this as it would be very useful to utilize synthetic data to run through a gaped read mapper like STAR.

Is it ok to just convert the fasta output to fastq format use other tools?
