C-c C-c makes Emacs freeze

I finish editing a buffer, type C-c C-c, then Emacs becomes unresponsive and I have to kill it via Activity Monitor (running on macOS).

I'm running on Spacemacs. Please let me know how I can help debug this and what output would be useful. Thank you!
