Groundwar: attack every building behavior problems
In a recent issue (Issue #514) it was requested that AI should attack not just
vehicles and defenses, but to "spend" time on regular buildings so the defender
can reach them.
Since the player would probably not target all buildings in his path if he/she
aims for capturing a mostly intact planet, this new behavior seems to be
problematic: usually, the player needs to wait until a few remaining units make
through the city to the last defensive building where they get destroyed.
Demolishing remaining defenses is an option which yields a battle over
situation, but only in clearly lost battles.
If the power dependent defenses is introduced, this may lead to further
complication: a single power plant destroyed can cripple the defenses but if
the AI destroys regular energy-drain sources, it just makes things harder for
themselves.
The resolution could be the following behavior:
- Damage power plants up to 51% to make them disabled if no active fire brigade
is present, otherwise, destroy power plants until a significant power shortage
is caused.
- Damage fire brigade (51%) if present
- Attack vehicles
- Attack defenses

in the original if you damage fire brigade 51% or more, they can´t operate
and the same with the nuclear, solar and fusion plant (althought if the fire
brigade is operative, it could be reparated to only 49% of damage and produce a
% of energy).
in the original game also had a disaster: sometimes in human planet, you are
called cause of nuclear disaster: one nuclear plant "explode" and get a damage
of 20-80%, with lossing of population and decrease of people paid taxes.
For these reason, in the original, when you have enought credits and developed
solar plant, you´re going changed the nuclear plant for fusion or solar.
The rules for AI to ground attack are (in my personal experience with the
original game):
- if the task force of the enemy (the AI) is superior or equal (in number and
quality) to your force, they deploy their force in one hard-group, and first
going to destroy tanks and vehicles that not are protected near fortress,
barracks or stronhold. If you situated your force near fortress, after the AI
destroy it, it become to destroy the fortress. Then, they go to destroy fire
brigade, energy plant and fortress. They tried always to fire from a site where
they don´t be shooting by your fortrees, or instead, to destroy a fortress
first to allowed to find this site
- if the task force of the enemy (the AI) is inferior (in number and quality)
to your force, they deploy their tanks and vehicles in various small group, and
tried to do the more damage they could: fire at all building or tank or vehicle
near to them. If they are firing to a structure (a police station for example),
and you begin to shoot them with a tank, they stop to fire to the police
station and began to counterfire to your tank.
