After floating a proof-of-concept script for several years, I finally had a go at a proper GlyphOrderAndAliasDB writer.

My testing concludes that it is pretty reliable, and it should be useful for anyone working with a UFO/FDK workflow. Apart from @misbatabassum, I also would like to invite @aurorazeng to have a look.
