Visible label is part of accessible name (2ee8b8): screen reader pronunciation help in name that is not in label
Is it acceptable to provide modifications in the name that are intended to help with screenreaders pronunciation of labels?
Ex 1: <a aria-name="Shiv-awn">Siobhan</a>
Ex 2: <a aria-name="char-lot, MI">Charlotte, MI</a>
ACT Task Force conclusion: adding pronunciation help in the accname, when it differs from the visible label, would be a failure.
- It would cause problems for Braille users.
- W3C is working on a pronunciation spec: Pronunciation Overview | Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) | W3C
