Another wildly-out-of-scope thing: What about a parallel bit of functionality to try to tell a GPU to reduce the amount of thermal throttling it does, or possibly capping it at a fixed but not-maximal frequency for a run? GPU benchmarks are famously insanely swingy, especially on laptop hardware, because of all this.
