Ok I am trying to build a test environment to test this. Can I ask what user permissions is required to generate correct security context on server side?

It works! The browser on the linux machine will prompt the user for credentials.

I have also tested on linux machine (Ubuntu Xenial) with both Firefox and Chrome to access an node application running on a Windows box. I can confirm that it works with both. As on Windows, Firefox requires some extra settings under about:config. I would therefore suggest closing this issue.
