How to export data

Open renestalder opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

I would like to export my data out of memex. Yet, the backup functionality does not really create a full backup in a machine-readable format, and the Obsidian Sync only seems to synchronize newly created entries.

What ways to I have to get my data out of Memex?

I also added this in 2023 to the issues as a feature request, https://github.com/WorldBrain/Memex/issues/1261, but no one ever responded to it. at most it got five thumbs up emojis. I don't think the developers really want you to get your data out of Memex. There was, when I last used it, a feature where you can select all highlights and copy them but that broke. What I did was just manually copy and paste all of my thousands of highlights. My computer of course broke. I am now unsure how to log back into Memex to continue this process I was in since 2023. I had made good progress on my manual export to. You could do this, or switch to something else like I have (I went from raindrop to omnivore to obsidian web clipper), or both. I've seen this also reccomended on the memex forms (which I can't find now) a few times. Considering its been years I don't think Memex ever wants to add this feature. You'd have to do it manually, which is a buggy time in of itself.

@flowingblaze Thanks for your response.

I guess I pretty much gave up on this front by now. I did exactly that: Selected all entries and used the copy feature to copy/pasted it somewhere else. Now I I probably script it to import it into my Obsidian storage.

I can't bother with software that isn't fully GDPR compatible, which includes that I can export my data. And I stopped my payments after I noticed there is a lack of communication.
