7440 Rom broken

Open deephooloovoo opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

The ROM at firmware/7440a.bin is broken: it is just the same 256 bytes repeated over and over again. Do some 7440s have a socketed ROM? I was going to just dump mine and submit a pull request, but it's soldered in. Mine appears to be a pretty late colorpro: the date on the ROM says 1992.

There are also roms for the 7596a available at http://www.hpmuseum.net/display_item.php?hw=81

oh, i somehow missed this comment, sorry about that!

no, there aren't (to my knowledge) 7440s with socketed ROMs - i desoldered mine to get this dump (but then apparently messed that up, oops).

i can try dumping it again and figure out what was wrong with my setup (presumably just some of the address select wires were not plugged in right), but unfortunately that'll have to wait until the current situation in NYC stabilizes a bit, since my 7440A is not in my apartment right now.

curious what you're planning to do that involved dumping the rom - just curiosity, or some other plans?

It looks like the rom is still broken. I don't have any specific plans for it, but it would be useful to see what it's looking for in the enhancement cartridge. It would also be interesting to dump the font - I can't seem to find it anywhere online. If it's too much work to get it, then don't worry about it. EDIT: I've found someone with the GEC who can dump it. I can build my own cartridge and dump it by writing a bit of 6800 code.
