Update WSA

Can I update this version of WSA and keep my data?

I successfully updated WSA just by repeating the install steps, and my data stays there. Pay attention: do not uninstall WSA or your data will be lost. When reinstalling, just copy and overwrite all the files extracted from the .msix to your last installation directory. The data doesn't store there, so just overwrite them.

After overwriting, try to follow the following steps to edit product, system, system_ext, and vendor images again.

  1. Download "GApps" via OpenGApps Project
  2. Clone this repository and populate the directories
  3. Final preparations
  4. Running the scripts
  5. Follow the Copy the edited images step and overwrite the images.

Registering the edited Windows Subsystem for Android™️ Installation Package and Gaining Root Access are not needed, and there is no need to login into google account again. Because the WSA has been installed and your data will not be deleted during the reinstall steps.

@L245T Just to be clear, you repeated all install steps in the Readme starting from https://github.com/WSA-Community/WSAGAScript#download? I'm guessing you "update" WSA just by downloading the newer version from store.rg-adguard.net?

Just tried this, I still need to do the register step without uninstalling the existing version to get the WSA updated , otherwise it stays at the old version. (You can open the setting app to check the version number)

You still have to do the register step as that's what populates the information like version information, location, and other things into the system. It will technically work without reregistering since you are replacing the files, but it can cause issues and the system will still think its the old version
