Client incorrectly tries to place skull on chest

Bug Description
When holding a skull and shifting at the same time, right clicking a chest tries to place the block against it, whereas it wouldn't do so with a vanilla 1.8.x client.

Steps to Reproduce
As explained above
Expected Behavior
Not try to place the skull
In vanilla 1.8, shifting and right clicking a chest with a skull will place the skull against the chest. I believe what happens here in the video is that Hypixel cancels that behaviour/placement as you shouldn't be allowed to place the skull at all (or remove it from your inventory) - So I am not able to reproduce this.
Please try how this behaves with an actual 1.8 client on Hypixel
Did test it before I made the issue and also just now, with a vanilla 1.8.9 client the head doesn't appear on those "Treasure Chests" on the Crystal Hollow island on Skyblock.
