[HL25] Options for Pre-25th Anniversary Update Gameplay Changes

Open marigi64 opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

I love the new update, but the gameplay changes are messing up my muscle memory after so many years of playing the game.

An option or console command to revert to the old behaviours for veteran players would be greatly appreciated.

Gameplay Changes Including:

  • Grenade throwing way further (short-range throws are much harder now)
  • Satchel Charge Controls being changed (this has gotten me killed countless times already lol)
  • Pushing and Pulling objects are a lot slower
  • Crowbar now one hit killing headcrabs (as pointed out by MilkeyWilkey, this was how the game behaved when it originally came out so not a big deal)

Many mods don't and never will receive these changes so this leaves things being quite inconsistent when switching between mods and the main game. Some multiplayer servers are also still using the old behaviours, causing further confusion.

Changing the gameplay aspects of a 25-year-old game with the only option to revert these being switching to an old no longer supported branch is a bit too much in my opinion. (especially with all of the other great additions in this update).

Partial duplicate of #3448.

crowbar fix is a godsend, this is the original behavior and I'm glad it's back. grenade throwing is also a feature brought back and I hope it will stay that way. don't mind if it can be turned off but I hope at least these two will stay on by default

Playing through some old builds I found the grenade throw distance was only further in the Day One pre-release Demo and not the retail release (unless there is something I'm missing).

it is, but it's much more reliable than accedentally throwing it right in front of yourself while strafing and going backwards

Fair enough, I'm fine with these behaviours being the default but I hope they make them optional since they have been throwing me off.
