Describe the bug SteamVR shows error 307

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Steam
  2. Click on the VR headset icon to launch SteamVR
  3. See error

Expected behavior SteamVR launches as expected and interfaces with Valve Index

System Information (please complete the following information):

  • Distribution: Ubuntu 22.04.3
  • SteamVR version: 2.0.8
  • Steam client version: 1698777785
  • Opted into Steam client beta?: No
  • Graphics driver version: Mesa 23.0.4-0ubuntu1~22.04.1 (LLVM 15.0.7)
  • Gist for SteamVR System Information: [See instructions]

Screenshots The error message is: SteamVR Fail A key component of SteamVR isn't working properly. Please quit SteamVR, then visit Task Manager and End any remaining SteamVR tasks before restarting the app. (307)

Additional context I'm running the KDE plasma Wayland desktop as recommended by Steam here. The version of Steam I have installed is from the Steam website and not the Ubuntu repos. I've tried restarting SteamVR, rebooting, and unplugging the Valve Index and plugging it back in.

Switched to Plasma(Wayland) on Ubuntu-Studio 22.04 to see if maybe 2.0.10 would run without the error you get in Plasma(X11), and can confirm same issue for 2.0.10 as another-techie is getting for 2.0.8.

Same issue with X11

SteamVR version: 2.0.8
Steam client version: 1698777785

It does come on by rolling back to the SteamVR 1.14 "for Linux beta" though

Same here. up to date Fedora 38, on an AMD 5900X RTX3070 on 545.29.02

(I've given up on wayland, far to buggy for general use)

reverted (again) to SteamVR 1.27.5 thank f' I offlined that before they made this garbage "non beta", wtf????????

I tried on Regolith OS as well on Wayland with a supported compositor. Didn't work on X11 with Reglith (based on Ubuntu 22.04) either. I tried 1.14v beta that's supposed to work for Linux users. Didn't work either.
