[BUG] Half-Life: Alyx - saves downloaded from Steam Cloud unavailable ingame
Reporting this here since there seems to be no Alyx specific GitHub repo available. If there's a better place for this report please let me know.
Describe the bug After downloading Half-Life: Alyx on a fresh Linux system and letting Steam synchronize the cloud saves, said saves are not shown in the ingame menus (it's just prompting to start a new game, as if there were no saves).
After going to the game directory (Half-Life Alyx/game/hlvr), you can notice the saves being downloaded to the SAVE directory (in all caps). Renaming the folder to save, and the S* folders inside it to s* (in non capital letters) causes the game to recognize the saves.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
- Have some saves for Alyx uploaded to the Steam Cloud.
- Have a fresh system install (specifically one where Alyx isn't installed, and there is no leftover
Half-Life Alyxfolder insteamapps, or any game saves stored). - Download or install Alyx in a standard way, and wait until the Steam Cloud saves are synchronized.
- Launch the game.
- No saves are visible in the game menu.
Expected behavior The saves downloaded from the Steam Cloud should be shown in the game's menus.

I wondered about this as well. I checked my steam-cloud to see if anything was saved and I did have savegames from October 2020, but nothing later than that. I then checked my laptop and found two folders, one labeled save and one labeled SAVE.. The SAVE-folder contained everything synced to steam-cloud, while save contained everything else.
for a quick workaround under Linux delete the save folder in hlvr and then open a terminal and create a symlink by opening a terminal and running ln -s Save save
