(LINUX) TF2 does not start from desktop shortcuts, gotta manually start it thru the Steam window

Hello @pootispenserhere4723, starting with the 64 bit update of Team Fortress 2, the Team Fortress 2 client is now run inside the Steam Linux Runtime - Sniper container environment. Running it from outside of that container is not supportable. You should be able to reconfigure your shortcut to call xdg-open steam://run/440 to tell Steam to start the game.

That's odd, if you run that from a terminal or maybe steam steam://run/440, it should hand off to the running Steam client. I don't know why it would behave any differently from a shortcut.
