Prototype (10150)
The game Prototype displays a black screen when started for the first time.
Starting the game with launch option windowed (windowed mode) allows the game to start. The game does break after creating a new save slot, but that's a different issue.
It seems to be a recurrent issue, though. Other games also have problems figuring out which resolution to use when none has been set manually (i.e. after installing the game): https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/132 https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/141

What CPU? The game is known to insta-crash with any CPU that has SMT even under windows. If you have such a CPU, disable SMT in BIOS and try again.

no have insta crash run first video and crash and video is not complete Have intel skylake
judging by the log, looks like a missing wined3d format:
154303.907:0024:0032:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 0x16dcf3f0 is being unloaded while mapped. 154303.915:0024:0025:fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized 0x34324644 (as fourcc: DF24) WINED3DFORMAT! 154303.915:0024:0025:fixme:d3d:wined3d_get_format Can't find format unrecognized (0x34324644) in the format lookup table.
and me no have black screen have cinematic and crash in proton 3.7-8 and 3.16-3
As a point of data, the game seems to work perfectly well here except it has no audio (literally there is not even an audio source popping up in Pulseaudio itself). But the game runs well, efficiently, no missing anything as far as I can see, etc...
Work on Proton 3.16-4 Beta ! https://gist.github.com/liberodark/b09b4b17857325780f8c4b37391ed4e8
Just have no sound xbox controller work
The game is known to insta-crash with any CPU that has SMT even under windows.
In Windows it can be workarounded by running the game with affinity 0xff (or less). No need to change something in bios. It just don't support more than 8 cores.
It seems to be a recurrent issue, though. Other games also have problems figuring out which resolution to use when none has been set manually (i.e. after installing the game)
Did you tried fixed dll from PCGamingWiki? https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Prototype#Widescreen_resolution Still, it shouldn't crash anyway.
Game starts into main menu but crashes on starting a new game (select save slot -> saving -> game begins to load -> crash).
Controller does not work in main menu, but does it working in native Windows either? Store page does not list controller support.
The game load, but without audio. steam-10150.log
Found no Audio issues, but the game freezes when loading a new game/save
It crashes on loading for me but this fixes it "WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 %command%" don't know about longer play time but at least it didn't crash, audio seems fine but the mouse movement is broken.

Alright so if i use just WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 %command% it starts but it will crash after a bit and disabling fsync fully fixed it for me, was able to finish the game without any crash.

Worked, except that I also couldn't boost my graphics settings from baseline defaults (low everything) or else it'd crash within a couple of minutes. Running Proton 7.0-5 on Arch.

Prototype (10150)
Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6508. @ffrasisti posted on 2023-02-07T20:42:51:
Compatibility Report
- Name of the game with compatibility issues: Prototype
- Steam AppID of the game: 10150
System Information
- Steam Deck 512GB
- OS: SteamOS Latest Stable
- Proton version: 7.0.6
People report on protondb that Proton 6.3-8 runs it perfectly, other say it works but with no audio. In any case, it seems to be a regression. The game currently has a Steam Deck Playable rating which it probably shouldn't have as of now. The game for me, seems to only run correctly on one old build of Proton GE, Proton-7.1-GE-1. Anything else, including new official proton versions or new GE builds will have the freezes.
Symptoms
Game freezes moments after getting to gameplay
Reproduction
Pick your settings (I maxed them given the game's age) Launch the game, start a new file, skip the cutscene, play for less than a minute before it freezes
Hello @ffrasisti, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please verify that Proton 6.3 behaves as expected with this game for yourself instead of relying on second hand information.
How do i upload the log from the steam deck?
You should be able to switch to desktop mode and copy the log to another system or use a browser from there.
steam-10150.log log of crash on 7.0.6
It might be interesting to test if setting the game's launch options to PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command% or PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% has an effect.
Do you need me to test that in 7.0.6? Do i do both or one at a time?
It might be interesting to test if setting the game's launch options to
PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%orPROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%has an effect.
do you still need a test of these two parameters? i've been using the ge version but i can try
any news on this?
For me it crashes after a bit of the first mission on the steam deck without disabling fsync, tried beta candidate / main with proton stable.
The game is also quite choppy if i have vsync on and 60 limit but that might be gamescope.
Prototype 2 also says playable but i never was able to play it, it crashes right at the start.
Has this been fixed??? @kisak-valve
