Workspace resize icons cannot be seen from the back

These are functioning as intended. The buttons are not meant to be seen from the back of the workspace. Ideally, either additional settings are placed on the back of the workspace, or a more minimal approach is taken. Some minimal approaches include making the only the frame visible, or the entire workspace semi-transparent. We could also require workspaces to be facing the user upon release of drag/move. A workspace that is facing away from the user provides no utility. The "minimizing workspaces" proposal could also remedy this.
