Old, Outdated, Abandoned

I consistently run in to problems with TwitchLib, and it's even worse on Unity.

  • This library will -NOT- work with any Unity version over 2020.
  • This library is outdated with Microsoft Extensions Logging Abstractions
  • Has issues with updated Newton Json
  • I do not recommend using TwitchLib, or TwitchLib.Unity in any version of unity above 2019.

I'll be honest, there's very little drive amongst current contributors to port changes to the unity build, especially now with recent Unity policy changes.

It would probably be relatively easy to checkout the Twitchlib packages, fix the newtonsoft dependency issues and then import into a Unity project.

I'll give this a look with a recent unity version and see if i can do a community release, but it's not a priority unfortunately. Will leave this open until i do though.

Merged this PR https://github.com/TwitchLib/TwitchLib.Unity/pull/68 which should help with compatibility in more recent Unity versions. Will still not close this until a new community release is done.

Is there a tool you'd recommend if this is abandonware?

we basically abandoned this bcs Twitch announced their first party Game Engine SDK but then they took ages to get it out. but they are out now so I would suggest you try them: https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/game-engine-plugins/
