Open AnonymousUser369 opened this issue 2 years ago • 11 comments

TrackerControl Version: 2023.01.31-fdroid

Describe the bug After Updating to the version mentioned above a lot of apps often don't load Example: Discord, Photomath, etc. Please fix this issue because i am unable to use trackercontrol to block trackers when apps don't work if its enabled

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install one of these apps
  2. Have the attached Settings for the App trackercontrol_20230323.xml.txt
  3. Don't Block Any Website
  4. Open Installed App
  5. See that it is stuck at loading even when nothing is blocked
  6. Disable Trackercontrol and App will start working again.

Sorry to hear this. Does TC show any blocked domains in those apps that could be the cause?

No, I allowed all the domains and still the apps won't load. I just installed the previous version and it works fine as long as i disable monitoring for those apps. Maybe something is wrong with the settings. Please do check them. Thank you for the reply.

Actually any newly installed app no longer shows any tracker inside. Or any kind of data, even though the data and trackers are there. When installed notification will show "5" trackers present, but when you enter the app section in TC, it keeps showing launch app to find tracker. FC, Stopping, data clear, cache clear, nothing works. Launching, relaunching also does nothing. Plus until and unless monitoring is turned off at TC level completely or turned off temporarily, only then that app works. Going back to 2 iteration version solves this issue. Also, the traffic monitor shows that app trying to connect to the tracker/host, but how can I work on it if the app section itself shows nothing ever.

Note Any app installed after updating TC to latest version triggers this issue. Already loaded apps work fine (most of the time).

I can't reproduce this, sorry. There have barely been any changes in the last version of TC. The number of trackers in the install notification refers to the tracking libraries, not the contacted domains.

Some apps won't work, such as Newpipe and YouTube

Gb, twitter seem ok 👌

This is what is going on with others too. Install a new app and even though it has trackers, it shows nothing. Everything I mentioned earlier, happens as stated. Even the OP has stated the same. Not sure how to get it shown to you.

Please don't tell me that the one perfect app has stopped getting worked on? Of all the apps in F-Droid related, this is the perfect one (with its obvious bugs), but it works better than others.

I have experienced this too, but only on devices running newer version of Android. On a device running Android 10 TC is working perfectly, but on another with 13/14 it shows the aforementioned behavior. I also noticed that it doesn't detect all the apps on the newer device.

Thank you. If it helps, one thing I noticed is that on the newer version of Android, TC seems to be forgetting which new apps are blocked. A good number of apps will get their trackers blocked the moment they are launched, but to show them requires a refresh on the TC's list, and after a certain amount of time the apps would disappear from the list, until the aforementioned actions are repeated. I suppose this might have something to do with the put app to Deep Sleeping difference on both version, newer android allows more app into deep sleeping.

The latest version of TC addresses some compatibility issues. But it's unlikely to address this issue, so I'll need to investigate further. This version has only been released yet in the Telegram channel, as it is still being tested.
