How to make a changes if live is created

I have successfully created a live image, and now I able to boot from a USB drive. But now I want to add some data and files to my live Linux, how can I make changes?

Have you tried using the rootcopy folder or creating an additional module? This way the changes will be added when the system is booted or (if the kernel supports aufs) when the module is activated
