Configuration for storing forgotten items

Currently we can setup storing forgotten items on the desktop: however that makes a huge mess:

Would it be possible to configure this in a better way? I would love to have something like ~/.bash_history and to be able to grep inside of it, maybe ~/.flycut_history?
