If you look at the bottom of this page, there's a notifications button where you can mute or unmute the thread, it should look like that :)

Nope, those are exactly what I wanted :) I tried searching for "mute", "unmute", "volume", didn't think of searching for "sound". Consider this request satisfied, thanks.

I'd like to reopen this for the original title, an icon that denotes that the microphone is muted (or a icon for a button to mute the microphone.) Perhaps the microphone icon with a X like appbar.sound.mute, a minus like appbar.edit.minus or perhaps with a slash through it like appbar.currency.dollar.free.
